I'm up for starting The Ultimate History of Video Games if anyone else is. It's been sitting on my shelf for the longest, and would be a pretty good introductory choice - as it covers the full spectrum up until the turn of the millennium. Some of the conversations that come out of the read might shed some light on which other books to add to the roster.

The idea of include fiction (novels) into this book club was brought up on Twitter. What are your thoughts? Mine personal preference is to keep this to non-fiction, but that's admittedly a selfish thing (I read a lot of fiction otherwise, but I'd like to read some non-fiction video game stuff).

Here's the Twitter poll with the question: https://twitter.com/calebjross/status/9 ... 3634958336

I'm having a hard time thinking of fiction examples other than Ready Player One.

The only ones I can think of are either books that take place in a video game like environment (a terrible book called The Broken World attempts to capture the "fun" of reading a video game walkthrough with the drama of a guy writing a video game walkthrough. I gave it 4/5 stars but that was back in 2010 before I knew any better) or novels that take place in game universes (the Halo books, for example).

The Twitter pool winner is...

Blood, Sweat, and Pixels! I'm going to start reading this week. Feel free to join in. I'll get a thread started soon.

I don't 'read' much myself, but I did just get Blood, Sweat and Pixels in audiobook last week. Are you guys going to pull a P2 and call me a cheater for doing this the easy way?

I think we can all agree that P2 is a terrible and incorrect human being.

I'm 30% through so far. I've been enjoying it. Podcasts are probably going to need to wait for a few days..
