I really enjoyed this episode.

I am glad you two were able to watch Elf and Home Alone. I have fond memories of watch both of those movies for the first time. I saw Home Alone a few months after it was released when it made it to the dollar theater (does anyone's town still have a dollar theater?) I loved it then and I love it now. Elf I saw when I was in my early 20s and saw it with a friend from a restaurant I worked at. I had a huge Zooey crush so that hit that itch right on the button, and Will Ferrell is outstanding.

I remember seeing Love, Actually in the theaters when it came out. I believe I went to see it because it had Keira Knightley and it was her first major movie after Bend it Like Beckham. I remember being really bothered even back then by a number of the stories, but finding the porn stand-ins the nicest people in the show and hoping that they got together. Now, as for the ridiculous story line of Mr. British guy who goes to America to shag women because they will fawn over his accent - you guys brought up that he goes to a dumpy bar where really attractive women happen to be. If I remember correctly, he goes to Wisconsin and finds the women in a bar like that. Having lived in WI for 4 years for college just before this movie was released, I can confirm that really attractive women in Wisconsin actually go in large numbers to really dumpy bars - there are some really nice bars, but I'd never ever see the archetype woman that British guy hooks up with at swanky cigar bars, wine lounges, or the like - just dumpy stupid bars that look like cabins or dive bars. Go figure.

My favorite stocking items are also not candy and I laughed at the stories of giving fruit or other unique gifts. It's one of the only times of the year I'll get fancy shaving cream (C.O. Bigelow in particular) instead of just a can of Gillette. I also like things like beard oil, fancy face moisturizers, and good socks.

Thanks for the awesome episode!

Thanks Diego!

I don't know if I've ever seen a dollar theatre. I think the cheapest I've ever seen is $4 Tuesdays at a cinema in a dive mall in Mississauga (the Toronto suburb where I grew up).

I missed that British guy went to Wisconsin. Which also raises the question... why? I'm sure it's very nice and I hear there's great beer and cheese but as a non-American wanting to visit America for the first time... Wisconsin? Really?

Hearing Riley scream out Tracer for the costume she’d prefer made my day. I love the pure joy she has for that character.

Great show ladies!

(00:26:40) Love, Actually (Pam/Riley)
I appreciated your discussion on this film, and I haven't seen it...but oddly enough now I want to, lol. It's not necessarily to see "omg just how bad it is" but it sort of is I guess? I like Romantic Comedies and can appreciate Romance Drama stuff so I'm curious enough to see how they handle each small story for each character. Don't know when I'll do it, but if it's on Netflix or HBO Now then I'll check it out.

(01:05:53) Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? @vosskah
For a brief time I said yes but honestly I think it was just because it was "amusing/funny" to say it was and have "evidence" to back up why. Recently my brother and his best friend sort of talked about this when I posted a funny picture on fb about this. Honestly my true answer is no because Christmas is not part of the plot at all. For a movie to be a Christmas movie the plot has to be about Christmas whether it is trying to get a gift for someone and struggling like Jingle All the Way or if it's spending time with your awkward family for the holidays like plenty of Christmas films or if the plot is a very on the nose Christmas plot.

I consider it more of a Christmas film because of the plot but I can see it being both. I don't really have a tradition of watching holiday films anymore so I guess that's why I have less of a passionate opinion on these sort of things. It's kind of sad but part of it is just because I'm older and I see my family a lot outside of the holidays given I'm hispanic and have a huge family and we have a lot of family get togethers. It's only when we see family from out of town that any holiday feels unique to me now.

Found it on Netflix. The other films that spawned from this style are similar but only slightly better. Love Actually was definitely odd in places and some of the stories just make you go “...what?” Lol.

I agree, the movie could be set at any other time of year and it wouldn't make a difference. I even found it a bit jarring when the credits started and there was Christmas music over them since it wasn't part of the story at all.
