Increasing default logout period

Post by MightyQDawg » Tue Feb 07, 2017 11:48 pm

Is there a way to increase the default logout period?

It seems that I barely have time to write a post before being logged out and losing everything I've typed. (It has happened to me every time I post: including this time. This is the second time I'm attempting to post this message because I was logged out, in spite of the fact that I had logged in just minutes previously.) I'm also hoping for something a little shorter than the infinite time that's implied by using the "Log me in automatically" option.

Hey Eric,

I've seen your posts...they're huge! ;)

I've just maxed out the timings, so it should work better for you now. Also, checking "Always sign me in" on the login page will ensure a continuous refresh.

This time governance should only affect idle sessions, so it should never be logging you out during a post.

Let me know if this continues to be an issue, and I'll look into it further.

Thanks, Dean.

I'm not aware of the "Always sign me in" option on the login page you are referring to. I only see a "Log me on automatically each visit", which according to the FAQ will leave you logged in indefinitely (which I don't want).

Ok, it's now been about 90 seconds since I logged in. Let's see if this works...

[and I'm back...] Nope, didn't work. Good thing I copy/pasted before hitting submit. So, the problem remains. Perhaps it's not the forum system itself. Could it be browser compatibility and/or cookie related? It seems I can never get my first post through without re-logging in. The second typically works, and I'm guessing it's because for those it only takes me a few seconds to paste in the message and hit submit.

This is really strange. I've never been logged out and I leave it open for hours. Is this because I checked the log me in automatically?

I've been using the "Log me on automatically each visit" option for the past few days and I'm not having the problem. Though this is not the way I'd prefer to use this site, I can live with it.

If I had to guess, I'd simply say that the vast majority of users use the automatic option and don't experience the issue I am. The less-commonly used options are always more buggy, and I suspect a bug here too, though I'm not sure what's at fault.

I can give you one data point that corroborates that hypothesis.
