It's Monday! And that means it's time for your weekly dose of all the great Gaming Memorabilia news from this past week.
While not quite as packed as last week's E3 onslaught, this past week has seen a ton of great announcements! From vinyl records to running shoes to hanafuda cards to marriage forms - all of that and more is waiting for you below!
Final Fantasy XV - Aranea Highwind (Play Arts Kai)
Straight from Final Fantasy XV comes a new entry in the Play Arts Kai lineup; Aranea Highwind, airborne unit captain of the Third Army Corps 86 of the Niflheim Empire. Pre-orders started appearing on Monday at the usual pricepoint of $160, a fairly standard cost for these newer Play Arts figures. In addition to this highly-articulating, ultra-posable figure, fans also get 2 weapons, 4 hands and a helmet. Gotta admit, that's a pretty sweet deal!
Mega Man - Entertainment Earth Lineup
Entertainment Earth has recently posted a host of new and exciting Mega Merch to add to its online store. This includes a Mega Man and Proto Man 16oz. Pint Glass, a Mega Man Glass Water Bottle, 2 different Sublimated Bi-Fold Wallets and an 8-Bit Snap-Back Hat. While the release dates are staggered across June and July, keep an eye on these, as they'll likely go quick!
Mega Man - Rockman Exe x Sanrio coro coro comics merch (40th Anniversary)
In Japan, the Rockman.EXE x Sanrio crossover has been huge. And now with the 40th Anniversary of Coro Coro Comics, there's even more merch to be had. These 4 items are pretty standard fare when it comes to Mega Man merch; a pen, a cell-strap, a keychain and a badge; but it's still pretty cool to see the celebration of everyone's favourite NetNavi.
NEO GEO - Bitmap books Officially Licensed Visual History
UK publisher Bitmap Books - previously responsible for The Unofficial NES/Famicom: A Visual Comependium and Super Famicom: The Box Art Collection - has announced that its next project is NEOGEO: A Visual History, an officially licensed publication celebrating one of the most iconic gaming platforms ever made. At 400 pages long, this hardback book will come in three different editions. The Standard Edition costs £29.99, while The Collector’s Edition - £49.99 - ships in a heavy board black slipcase with five A4 posters, two stickers and an enamel pin badge. This edition is exclusive to the pre-order period. If you want something even fancier, then the MEGA Edition offers the same package as the Collector’s Edition but comes in a metallic gold slipcase and includes an exclusive ‘Memory Card Kid’ black T-shirt. Costing £69.99, the MEGA Edition is limited to 330 copies and comes with a stamped letter of authentication.
FATE/GRAND ORDER - Saber/Altria Pendragon (1/7 SCALE)
Last Friday we saw the pre-order release of Jeanne D'Arc from this beautiful free-to-play online RPG. This week, we get Altria Pendragon in all her 1/7 scale glory. While the figure itself is a little less elaborate, the $130 price tag is likely much more appealing in comparison. A beautiful team effort by Chikai (Wildflower) for sculptwork, Fio (ReplyFrom...) for direction and Noa (clips) for painting. All, of course, in coordination with Licome and Shenhua Japan Co. Ltd. This figure reflects her "Stage 3" costume from the game.
Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir - Gwendolyn (Leifthrasir Ver. 1/8)
This one's been a long time coming! After seeing the 1/8 scale unpainted prototype way back at the Wonder Festival 2016 Summer, and the painted prototype at the Mega Hobby Expo 2017 Spring, fans were dying to know when they were gonna be able to buy it. Well, Wednesday marked its release for pre-order at the understandable price of $170. Sculpted by Aiiro Sorairo (i-con) in association with Alter, this piece beautifully depicts the Valkyrie Princess, Gwendolyn, along with her trademark Psypher Spear. It reflects her appearance in Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir, the 2016 remake of the Vanillaware classic. It's well worth the cost now, but if you can wait, this one's scheduled to hit the hobby store shelves in January.
Nintendo - Collaboration Lineup with LeSportSac
Nintendo just announced on Wednesday that they've teamed up with LeSportsac, an American lifestyle brand of casual nylon bags, to put together an awesome special-collection of totes, backpacks and accessories. The collaboration so far has 2 major designs; Power-Up Burst and Mario Travel. Additionally, 3 companion pieces will be releasing alongside it including an authentic pouch shaped like the Game Boy, a round Piranha Plant pouch, and a Super Mario Bros. cosmetic. Scheduled to launch just in time for the Holiday travel season, expect to see a lot of these at the airport this Christmas!
Kingdom Hearts II - Sora (S.H. FiguaRts)
On Thursday, Tamashii Nations released the first official photos of the Sora S.H. Figuarts entry from Kingdom Hearts II. This figure was first revealed at the Tamashii Nations 10th Anniversary World Tour event (along with Mickey, Goofy and Donald Duck), and collectors have been waiting for the pics ever since. It's not too often that Square Enix licenses their own characters out to other companies. Glad they did though! This entry looks awesome, with lots of articulation, just like the Super Mario entries.
Touhou Project - Raimu Hakurei (Nendoroid)
For those familiar with the Japanese bullet-hell shooter franchise, Touhou Project, will no doubt recognize this protagonist, Reimu Hakurei. Just announced, this is another one of those 'exclusive' figures to the upcoming Wonder Festival 2017 Summer (July 30, 2017) - so another figure which likely won't hit too many gamer shelves this year. Similar to must Nendoroids, she comes along with several accessories including 3 facial expressions, her prayer stick and some talismans.
The Banner Saga - The Definitive Physical Edition
In collaboration with the ever-so-popular IndieBox comes the Definitive Physical Edition of Stoic's equally popular single-player Viking epic, The Banner Saga. Available for a limited time only, from Jun. 20 - Jul. 18, this "collector's edition" PC title will come with the usual game+manual+case, but also an awesome soundtrack CD and most notably, a premium collectible 6.5" bust of Ubin. I love these obscure gaming collectibles, and having this on the shelf would be an awesome edition (and conversation piece) for the old Games Room.
FATE/GRAND ORDER - Archer/ALTRIA PENDRAGON (Figma Figure)
Two entries this week of Altria Pendragon from Fate/Grand Order! Unlike the previously mentioned, this installment is from Max Factory's famous Figma lineup. Just announced on Friday, it sounds like this'll be exclusive to Wonder Festival 2017 Summer (July 30, 2017), so it might not hit retail shelves. The fully articulating figure comes with 3 facial expressions, her water gun and her Excalibur sword. Likely won't be seeing this one on my shelf unless it pops up on eBay for cheap - but great to see Fate/Grand Order get some more love!
Mega Man X - Giga Armor Series Mega Man X
Fans saw some awesome new photos of October's upcoming Giga Armor Series Mega Man X over at the Rockman Unity Blog on Friday. This figure from Tamashii Nations (same folks as the KHII Sora figure above), has some transforming action which reveals the hidden Mega Buster. Gimmicky but cool! It was also revealed that the front of the armor is modeled after the robotic bird, Beat from the Mega Man franchise. I'll definitely be picking this one up...and MIGHT even take it out of the box.
Sonic the Hedgehog - Annipon Slip-Ons
June 23 marked Sonic's 26th Anniversary; and while Twitter was a little quieter than last year, it didn't stop Japanese shoe company, Annipon, from teaming up with Sega to bring us these amazing limited-edition sneakers. Modeled after Sonic's own iconic footwear, they won't necessarily make you run any faster, but you will look 'way past cool'! On sale as of Friday!
Dead or Alive - Kasumi (C2 ver. PLAMAX MF-EX01 1/20 Scale)
Yet another exclusive figure to the Wonder Festival 2017 Summer at the end of July, this awesome mini-model from Max Factory is of course based off of Kasumi from the Dead or Alive franchise. Fans will remember the famous PVC figure from way back in 2004 of Kasumi in the same pose; but this time she's returning as a 1/20 scale plastic model kit. Sculpted by Hiroki Katayama with the cooperation of POLY-TOYS, this one will, like the first, sell out in no time.
Pokémon - Lance (Perfect Posing Product)
From Medicom Toy's lineup of Perfect Posing Products (PPP) comes a special treat for fans of the Pokémon franchise; particularly the original generations. Lance, the Dragon-type Trainer of the infamous Indigo Elite Four, graces us in all his 16cm, PVC glory along with a bust of his Dragonite. Sporting a pose from the HeartGold and SoulSilver artwork, this piece is sure to look awesome on any Game Room shelf. The $80 pre-orders kicked off on Saturday, with a shelf-date of December 2017.
Pokémon - Pikachu Marriage Forms
Alright, let's see how hardcore of a collector you really are! Announced on Friday by Japanese wedding magazing, Zexy, this new Pikachu-themed marriage form is 100% authentic, and will likely have some Pokéfans out there struggling to get their hands on one - whatever the cost! It's just like your standard marriage forms that you'd bring down to City Hall, only this one is cutely branded with 2 Pikachus and an "I Choose You!" logo.
Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online - Purple Heart 1/7 Scale Figure
For fans of the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise, you'll likely have heard about the upcoming Cyberdimension Neptunia coming out later this year (and already out in Japan). Straight from the RPG comes this 1/7 scale Purple Heart figure, courtesy of KADOKAWA ASCII Media Works. Thursday marked the first day of pre-orders, and while no firm release data has been given, we can expect sometime in January 2018. Buying her on her own will set you back $140, or you can opt for the $180 Dengeki 25th Special Pack, which comes with a background and tapestry for the figure.
Dragon Quest - Dragon Quest Hanafuda Cards
Just announced this week, these awesome looking Hanafuda cards are scheduled to hit sale on August 11. For those that don't know, Nintendo actually got its start making Hanafuda Cards way back in 1889 and has since released a vintage Mario set from its Club Nintendo prize lineup. While this has little to do with Nintendo or Mario - it should give you a good idea of what to expect from this new Square Enix release. At the risk of inflating this post - here's the full layout of the gorgeous art you can expect.
Furi - Definitive Edition Soundtrack
Courtesy of Limited Run Games, the physical edition of Furi went live as of 4pm EDT on Friday, and the sales numbers were impressive. Normally I don't cover game releases in this Merch-centric blog, but it's worth noting that this particular release also comes along with the games award-winning electro/synthwave soundtrack. Now you can listen to Carpenter Brut, amongst others, in good 'ol CD quality.
Metroid: Samus Returns - Legacy Edition in Europe
In last week's post, I mentioned the North American Collector's Edition of Metroid: Samus Returns which was revealed following the game's jaw-dropping E3 2017 announcement. Well turns out, Nintendo's going one step further in Europe. Rather than just the game and CD soundtrack, this "Legacy Edition" also includes a Game Boy cart Steelbook, a Screw Attack insignia, a morphball keychain, a a 40-page artbook from the game. This isn't the first time we've seen this; I'm sure we all remember the fan clamour around the European releases of Bravely Default, Bravely Second and Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia.
The Legend of Zelda - Historical Metal Charm Gashapon Set
Gashapon news has been fairly sparce lately, so it was great to see Takara Tomy Arts release this new series of 6 Legend of Zelda themed metal charms in full-set form. Each entry is based off a different insallment of the beloved franchise, and include; The Legend of Zelda, Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and of course, Breath of the Wild.
Sonic Mania - Data Disc Vinyl Record
Data Discs has been an awesome source of vinyl records for gamers since it started up; covering Sega classics like Streets of Rage, Shenmue, Shinobi, Outrun, Golden Axe and Gunstar Heroes among others. Surprisingly though, Sonic has been left out of the mix....until last week! Data Discs has announced, just in time for Sonic's 26th Anniversary, the official Sonic Mania vinyl album. Featuring select tracks by composer Tee Lopes, as well as new gatefold art featuring Sonic, Tails, & Knuckles exploring the lush vistas of Green Hill Zone Act 2, the vinyl album is a must-have for any fan or Sonic music aficionado, and a gorgeous addition to any Sonic collection. As with all Data Discs, you have a choice, this time between Classic Black, Translucent Blue or the Limited Edition.
Another awesome week for Gaming Memorabilia collectors, and clearly shaping up to be an incredible year! Really hope you guys enjoyed browsing through the merchandise. If you did, head on over to the Cartridge Club forums and let me know what you liked, didn't like, and everything in between! Any hardcore Mega Man fans out there drooling over the newly announced lineups? What are your thoughts on the European vs. North American pre-order bonuses these days? Are you a big enough Pokéfan to fill out a Pikachu Wedding Form? Can't wait to hear from you!
Until next week guys, keep on gaming!
