It's Monday! And that means it's time for your weekly dose of all the great Gaming Memorabilia news from this past week.
This was another great week for figures in Japan, but a little weak on the North American front. Luckily there were quite a few Collector's Edition announcements to help keep the fans spending money in the meantime! Check out below for all the details:
Super Mario - Monopoly Gamer and Power Packs
If you’re a Super Mario Bros. fan and also happen to be a board game aficionado, you’re in luck! Hasbro has just announced that its historically popular game, Monopoly, will be joining forces with Nintendo to bring you an all new game experience called Monopoly Gamer this fall. The usual Monopoly tokens are swapped out so you can instead use beloved Super Mario characters, with each one featuring its own special power throughout gameplay. You have your choice to play has Mario, Yoshi, Princess Peach or Donkey Kong, and you play your way through the game with the ultimate goal of defeating Bowser at the very end. This unique twist offers you the chance to focus on gaining points by buying Properties, collecting Coins (which is replacing the standard money) and beating Bosses.
The Monopoly Gamer Collector’s Edition is also an option for all you video game and board game collectors out there. Exclusive to GameStop, this version includes a different version of the outer box, a Bowser token, and a Bowser Jr. Character card with unique Monopoly game abilities.
Even more exciting, Hasbro is offering you a chance to enhance your board game experience with the newly announced Nintendo themed Monopoly Gamer Figure Packs called Monopoly Gamer Power Packs. Each pack is sold separately and features new character tokens that “grant unique powers to optimize your Monopoly Gamer gameplay experience.” Beyond the four characters listed above, the following characters are available in the packs: Wario, Luigi, Toad, Boo, Rosalina, Diddy Kong, Fire Mario and Tanooki Mario. Each pack contains a Character token, Character card and a Character sticker. Monopoly Gamer Figure Packs will cost you $4 a piece.
Project Cars 2 - Physical Pre-order Bonuses
Project Cars 2 will be releasing September 22 and Bandai Namco has revealed that pre-orders can now be purchased for the game. The Collector’s Edition comes with a 1/43 scale diecast model of the McLaren 720S and an art book that illustrates the development process behind the game. Also included with this is the eSports VIP Pass. If this is presented at a Project Cars eSports event, you will be treated to going to the front of the queue, hanging out with developers, and scoring some swag. But wait! The Ultra Edition will be limited to 1000 copies. Rather than a 1/43 scaled of the McLaren 720S, it will include a huge 1/12 scale. Players will also score an individually numbered snapback hat and a poster signed by the team.
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood - Collector's Edition
The Stormblood expansion to FFXIV just came out late last month, and that means the Collector's Editions are on sale now! This pricey edition of the Stormblood expansion comes with a Stormblood special art box, a Zenos yae Galvus figure, an official Stormblood art book, a cloth map of Eorzea, a Stormblood logo sticker, and in-game items Syldra Mount, Wind-up Bartz Minion, and Chicken Knife.
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd - Megurine Luka
We recently saw the Hatsune Miku GT Project release from Max Factory hit pre-orders 2 weeks ago, so it's awesome to see yet another entry in the rhythm-game favourite hit pre-orders on Tuesday. Megurine Luke is sculpted by none other than Grizzly Panda from her "Temptation Module" appearance, and follows the same 1/7 scale PVC design of the usual Max Factory releases. If you're a fan of the Hatsune Miku franchise, this is easily one of the best looking figures thus far!
Street Fighter V - Chun Li (Storm Collectibles)
Pre-orders for Storm Collectibles' Chun-Li went live on Wednesday, and they're selling out quick! The figure will include 3 interchangeable head sculpts, 9 interchangeable palm, a Kikoken Effect, a Hyakuretsukyaku Effect and 2 V-Trigger Effects. Of course you'll also get a stand with the Street Fighter V logo. With a $60 price tag, this is an easy purchase for any SF Fan!
Batman: Arkham Knight - Red Hood Story Pack
A new statue based on the Red Hood Story Pack for the Batman: Arkham Knight video game is coming from Prime 1 Studio. The statue features the new outfit for the Red Hood, bearing two guns and standing atop a themed base. There will be a standard edition and an exclusive edition which includes an extra interchangeable portrait. Combined, there will only be 800 made available.
Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap - Collector's Edition
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is an outstanding side-scroller, and this remake brought about enough for old fans of the original game to live while delivering enough for newcomers as well. Today, Limited Run Games announced that the game will be getting a physical release through them – with some bonus goodies. There will be a basic game-only version along with a collector's edition that has a 2-disc OST, an 18″ x 24″ poster, and 10 trading cards in a large Sega Master System-style grid paper box. There’s no word on when pre-orders will be begin, but it should be a fast seller since LRG has had requests for this game since before its digital launch.
Touken Ranbu -Mikazuki Munechika (1/8 Scale 'Awakened' Ver.)
Likely not one that many of you will be familiar with - but worth a spot in this Round2Roundup just the same. Touken Ranbu is an online browser/smartphone game by DMM and Nitropolis, where players 'awaken' legendary warriors (known as blades) and build an army to defeat evil forces. One such blade is Mikazuki Munechika and can be seen here, sculpted as a 1/8 scale figure in his 'Awakened' appearance. Not to be confused with the original version that was released by Orange Rouge last year. He's said to be the most beautiful of the Five Great Swords, so be sure to add his beauty to your collection!
Pac-Man - Tokyo Pixel Tees
Relative newcomer Tokyo Pixel has recently announced an awesome new lineup of officially licensed Pac-Man T-shirts. There are five entries in the linup to collect - each representing Japanese cities. Looking closer, you'll see the maze layout of each actually spells out (in Romaji) the names of each city; Kyoto, Tokyo, Osaka, Hokkaido and Hakata. The designs also differ, portraying various food items that are specialties in those regions. If you're looking to update your wardrobe, these are great!
Hoshizora no Babylon: semarikuru Cosmic Sukebe oneesans - Usako (1/6 Scale Figure)
The popular adult-only PC game from Japan gets an adult-only figure. From IVE / Kalmia Project, fans of this franchise were able to get a few glimpses of the new piece last week. A 24.5cm, 1/6 scale PVC standee of Usako. The piece might look a little...disproportionate...but in actuality it's quite close to her in-game counterpart. Also, for those who were able to catch the pre-orders on Friday, you'll get an alternative '18-and-over' torso (censor-bar not included).
Nights of Azure 2: Bride of the New Moon - Collector's Edition
The sequel to the 2016 PS4 title has finally been revealed by Koei Tecmo to be coming to the west this year, and continues where the first game ended with a brand new cast of characters joining the fight. In addition to this, Koei Tecmo announced a collector’s edition for both the PS4 and Nintendo Switch versions of the title with a bundle of goods for players to pick up. The collector’s edition includes three cloth posters, the official soundtrack and a hard cover art book for $99.99
Pokémon: Sun / Moon - Choco-Egg Lineup (Re-Release)
Earlier this year, we saw Furuta Confectionary release their first lineup of Pokémon: Sun/Moon choco-eggs. Now, only a few months later, they are re-releasing this lineup (to the confusion of fans everywhere). It'll be the same lineup of 15 collectible Pokémon plus the usual chase-figure; but this time, Pikachu will come wearing an Alola-region cap.
POKÉMON: SUN / MOON - Pokémon Cookies
And continuing to ride the Pokémon train, Furuta announced another confectionary treat for fans last week - the Pokémon Cookies. While the cookies inside aren't any different than the usual cakes we get from Furuta, the packaging is focused on the Alolan Pokémon. These are scheduled to hit store shelves (at least in Japan) as early as July 17, 2017.
LawBreakers - Collector's Edition Swag
Boss Key Productions has partnered with Limited Run Games to release LawBreakers physically on both PS4 and PC. The Collector's Edition, which is now available for pre-order, includes a digital copy of the Deadzo Deluxe Edition—featuring the core game plus exclusive weapon and character skins—and more importantly, two ultra premium character card packs and an exclusive vinyl sticker set. Also included is Abaddon's Journal, which contains original fiction and art, and classic packaging
Kirby - 25th Anniversary pocket watch (Limited run)
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of everyone's favourite pink puffball, Asamizu Company released these made-to-order pocket watches on Saturday. There will only be 200 that are distributed in total, but they're fully licensed, so definitely get your hands on one if you can! The engraved pixelation looks awesome on the front with Kirby and King Dedede, and the serial-number plate adds a 'premium' feel to the collectible. Expect to pay around $90 for one of these.
Dragon Quest - Slime Cap
The newest addition to Square Enix's "Smile Slime" lineup is this guy. An awesome mesh-cloth cap in the form of a Slime. Not sure why I like this thing so much - but I'm seriously debating buying one. I generally hate the 'farmer-cap' style (my head just doesn't work with caps), but the pointy top removes any dignity you might have had anyway. At under $25, not a bad purchase for any DQ fan.
Collector's rejoiced again this week with all the great offering. As always, I hope you guys enjoyed browsing through the merchandise. If you did, head on over to the Cartridge Club forums and let me know what you liked, didn't like, and everything in between!
You guys picking up any of these Collector's Editions? What franchises would you like to see Monopoly Gamer expand into? What are your thoughts on these 'adult-only' video-game figures that continue to pour out of Japan? Can't wait to hear from you!
Until next week guys, keep on gaming!
